The Aura and Mystique of October Baseball

Well, the Division Series are over and all the "favorites" to win the World Series are off golfing somewhere.  Of course, of those favorites, the Red Sox got the head start and are already on the "back 9."  Last night, the "fightin' phils" were stunned to the point that the weren't able to move last night.  Chris Carpenter out-dueled Roy Halladay, quite spectacularly I might add.  The Cardinals, a team that made it into the playoffs on the last day of the regular season, shocked the HIGHLY favored Phillies and their oft lauded rotation.

The Yankees also lost to the Tigers, but I don't believe this comes as too much of a surprise.  Detroit is a very good team and the Yankees' starting rotation, while it did win them the AL East title, has always been suspect.  The Red Sox and Phillies, however, were picked by practically everyone and their grandmother to face-off in the World Series.

Unenlightened people say baseball is boring.  They are WRONG.  This is why the MLB season is 162 games and even then, the playoffs are often unpredictable.

So, was your favorite team knocked out?  Did they not even make it?  Who's going to win it all?  What does your team have to do to be there at the end next season?  Sound off below.

  1. Baseball is boring. The game, that is. It's the situations surrounding the games that make them interesting. And I don't follow baseball, ergo, it's boring. Call me unenlightened, I suppose.
