'Dead Rising 2: Off the Record' Preview

On October 11, we get the iteration of Dead Rising 2 that many fans of the original clamored for.  I must admit, I was not a fan of changing the main protagonist from the witty Frank West to the bland "father figure" of Chuck Greene.  Sure, the game was still fun and the weapon system was a blast, but it just felt like something was missing.

Sure, some people will cry foul that Capcom is using us just like the consumerist society they parody in the 1st game (Seriously, the parallels are scary...).  I think the $40 price tag justifies a game that can be this engrossing, even if it is just a re-imagining.  Besides, we're months removed from Dead Rising 2.  I'm sure we're all yearning to massacre thousands upon thousands of the undead in increasingly gruesome and ridiculous ways.  It's oddly therapeutic.

                                                        He's covered wars yanno...

I feel like the character of Chuck Greene was a total contrast to the tone that the series established with the original outing.  It was a totally off-the-wall zombie game with "message" that really only served to poke fun at people who put social commentary in a damned zombie flick!

Frank West took all the craziness in stride, cracking jokes along the way.  The irony of the series, of course, being that the "citizens gone insane" are the real threats, NOT the un-dead.  Anyways, I think this game is worth stumbling over to your local video game retailer and groaning until they hand over your very own copy.  Will you buy it?  Rent it?  Totally ignore it's existence?  Sound-off below, but be warned, if you don't buy the game, Frank West will claim that you are part of the cover-up.  And if he's off his 'Zombrex', he might just decide to eat his critics...
